James Harper was born and raised in Comanche, OK where he graduated High School in 2005. His whole life, he was surrounded by music; both Grandfathers being musicians, as well as having an uncle who was the music director in the church he grew up in. James was raised in the non-denominational church, Ray Of Hope, where he was active in the youth Praise and Worship band, as well as backing drummer for the Sunday morning worship services. Also in High School, James was the worship leader for a mid-week High School devotional group that met during lunch, playing guitar and singing, leading the students in worship. He began playing piano at the age of 18 and has continued to have a desire to lead worship. He moved to Chickasha, OK in 2005 to pursue a degree in music, and graduated in April of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Composition. In 2008, he became the drummer for Mustang United Methodist Church where he was first introduced to the Methodist church. James says of the experience, "I felt at home in the Methodist church. I love the structural setting that the Methodist church possesses, and feel that God's presence moves through that structured setting." In the fall of 2012, after becoming friends with Dylan Nagode, he became the drummer for Blanchard First United Methodist Church. After two years serving as additional musician within the church's praise and worship group, James was hired on to be the Music Director for Blanchard FUMC. James says that he is thankful to the Blanchard FUMC and to God for being given the opportunity to be the church's Music Director and feels blessed beyond measure to serve this wonderful church. James enjoys writing and recording original music during his off time."
